Cleaning Your Electronics

In our modern society electronics are used more than anything else. That is why it is important to prevent dust and grime build up by keeping them clean. However if we do not treat our electronics with special cleaning care they will not last very long.  Each electronic device has different types of care, and I will help you ensure the durability of your products by listing common devices and how they should be maintained.

Fore warning: before cleaning any electronic devices ensure that the power is off.

LCD Screens

Wipe the screen using a very small amount of vinegar and water applied onto a lint free soft cleaning cloth. It is important to never apply pressure only repeat procedure until satisfied.

Earphones

You can use an unwanted toothbrush to remove dirt that is built up inside the earpiece then proceed my using a cloth moistened with vinegar and water to wipe away the surface dirt.

Cell phones

The best product for cleaning your cell phone is rubbing alcohol however if your phone contains plastic using a glass cleaner is advised. Use an unwanted tooth brush and slightly dip it into rubbing alcohol or glass cleaner and brush away dirt from the connector area (where you plug your charger into), speakers and keyboard. Remember never to use liquids around your battery for that is where most manufactures place a water damage indicator and exposure to any liquids may cause warranty issues.

Computer Keyboards

Dust tends to build up underneath keyboards causing the keys to become stiff and harder to use. The best way of eliminating the dust, without taking all the keys out and cleaning it manually, is using compressed air. Tilt you keyboard downwards and spray the air away from you, to avoid dust blowing towards you. Use a cloth dampened by pure soap and water to wipe the top of the keyboard.

Desktop computers

Cleaning the inside of your desktop computer tower is a much needed task for it will improve your computer’s longevity. Throughout time your computer will accumulate dust this build up may interfere with the connection of the wires this may cause your computer to stop running. When cleaning the inside of a tower you must be very careful, do not use a vacuum for it has too much force. Start by using compressed air to eliminate the majority of the dust then use a duster to clean the remainder. Finish cleaning by using a non static cloth moistened with pure soap and water to wipe the interior and exterior of the tower.

Cleaning electronics does require extra care however in order to ensure the product’s longevity it should not be avoided. Never use harsh chemicals and only use water if it slightly moistens a cloth or other cleaning tool. Always remember that while cleaning all electronics should be turned off and unplugged.
